Transfers are this week but I'm staying put in Sweetwater....
Best line of the week: while knocking, I say, "we would
love to see you at church this Sunday. Will you come?" "Um, girls I
will not, don't ya know there's a hurricane comin’?" Well played. As you
know, the hurricane missed us! It was fascinating to see Miami prepare. Lines
at the gas station and empty grocery stores. Kind of freaky, so I am grateful
that the church invites us to prepare.
This week was really productive and we taught so many quality
lessons and our two investigators are getting baptized this coming Sunday
before church!
First investigator: he had his baptismal interview. He left his
pamphlet out on the kitchen table for his mom to read and he told her that she
needs to read it. We hope that she is our next investigator.
Second investigator: has some Sundays off, but we are hoping he
can get all Sundays off. He and our other investigator will be baptized this
Sunday.
We currently are focusing on further sanctifying ourselves and
sacrificing so that we can refill our teaching pool. We are looking for a
family right now and we know as we maintain our high standard of electness, God
will lead us to them.
+Mosiah 4:9-10
9 Believe in
God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in
earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in
earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can
comprehend.
10 And again,
believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves
before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now,
if you believe all these things see that ye do them.
To me, these verses are clear and simple and so powerful. Verse
9 talks about the plain and precious truth that God is perfect and all powerful
and we do not understand all that He does. And verse 10 is amazing because it
says that if we know these things, we must do them. Sister Edwards and I
realized during a really spiritual comp study that the atonement covers all of
mankind. However, not everyone has access to it. They need relief, whether they
know it or not. The price has been paid. The way that we can honor and use what
Christ so selflessly gave is to live as He did, share the gospel, and do the
things he has commanded. That is the way to happiness. God desires to give us
so much divine knowledge, but only as we pray, read, serve, obey, and share the
gospel can we understand. I love this realization I had this week because it
has changed knocking doors for us. We truly desire that all can feel the
edifying and joyful life the atonement brings.
Sister Edwards is amazing, as usual. She pushes me to be more
personable, use time wisely, and serve the Lord in a personal way. I am not
sure if those things make much sense, but there are beautiful experiences
I have had with her as I learn from her Christlike example that teach me along
with the spirit. She is my best friend and biggest blessing. Her Spanish and
teaching skills are so strong. She loves this work and is so wise and
mature.
Also: beautiful miracle this week, seeing the Savior and spirit
change our investigators when we are not around.
First investigator: his whole family says he is more calm and
loving and happier. Way less confrontational since he has been reading the Book
of Mormon.
Second investigator: his mom said since he has met with
missionaries his "face is different."
This work is true! That is nothing of us. The Savior is present
in this work. There is no greater satisfaction I have experienced than being an
instrument in the Lord's hands. I am blessed to finish my mission in this area
and with this companion.
Con amor,
Hermana McCormick
