September 8, 2015

Hello Everyone!

Both of our investigators were baptized on Sunday! It was a beautiful service filled with the Spirit. The mom of one of them bore her testimony and said that each prayer that she said morning and night for years had been answered when her son got baptized. I will never forget that testimony. When he came out of the waters of baptism, he explained that he literally felt a weight lifted off of his shoulders. I know this work is true.

Right now we are sacrificing and sanctifying ourselves to find our elect family that we will baptize. We know they are out there, and I love being unified with my companion on our focus and desire to find them. Makes the work far more enjoyable and gives me more confidence that the Lord will lead them to us.

Sister Edwards is still killing it. This week, I was impressed as I realized that she never complains or has anything negative to say. That makes this work far easier so I am working on becoming more like her. It was an incredible blessing to have found both of our investigators together, and to have been able to see both of them enter into the waters of baptism.

12 week is going well. We study and role play together and we learn together... I really truly do not feel like I am training her. She is exactly obedient...always. It is the best! She and I are completely unified in enjoying each hour of the day and keeping our minds and conversations focused on our Savior and our missions. She is the best companion to finish my mission with. I love her with my whole heart!

Alma 26 is officially my favorite chapter in the Book of Mormon. It puts my thoughts regarding my mission into words:

16 Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.

This verse may be my favorite in all of the Book of Mormon. I truly cannot glory too much in God for giving me this precious mission experience. Words will never do it justice.

I feel like I am starting to finally understand missionary work. The baptism was celestial. Just the opportunity to see two very dear friends be baptized was beyond description, thanks to the Lord.

I love this work! I love my Savior! And I love these 5 weeks that I have to represent the Lord Jesus Christ and bring others into the waters of baptism.

Transfers are this week but I'm staying put in Sweetwater....

Best line of the week: while knocking, I say, "we would love to see you at church this Sunday. Will you come?" "Um, girls I will not, don't ya know there's a hurricane comin’?" Well played. As you know, the hurricane missed us! It was fascinating to see Miami prepare. Lines at the gas station and empty grocery stores. Kind of freaky, so I am grateful that the church invites us to prepare.

This week was really productive and we taught so many quality lessons and our two investigators are getting baptized this coming Sunday before church!

First investigator: he had his baptismal interview. He left his pamphlet out on the kitchen table for his mom to read and he told her that she needs to read it. We hope that she is our next investigator.

Second investigator: has some Sundays off, but we are hoping he can get all Sundays off. He and our other investigator will be baptized this Sunday.

We currently are focusing on further sanctifying ourselves and sacrificing so that we can refill our teaching pool. We are looking for a family right now and we know as we maintain our high standard of electness, God will lead us to them.

+Mosiah 4:9-10

9 Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.

10 And again, believe that ye must repent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them.

To me, these verses are clear and simple and so powerful. Verse 9 talks about the plain and precious truth that God is perfect and all powerful and we do not understand all that He does. And verse 10 is amazing because it says that if we know these things, we must do them. Sister Edwards and I realized during a really spiritual comp study that the atonement covers all of mankind. However, not everyone has access to it. They need relief, whether they know it or not. The price has been paid. The way that we can honor and use what Christ so selflessly gave is to live as He did, share the gospel, and do the things he has commanded. That is the way to happiness. God desires to give us so much divine knowledge, but only as we pray, read, serve, obey, and share the gospel can we understand. I love this realization I had this week because it has changed knocking doors for us. We truly desire that all can feel the edifying and joyful life the atonement brings.

Sister Edwards is amazing, as usual. She pushes me to be more personable, use time wisely, and serve the Lord in a personal way. I am not sure if those things make much sense, but there are beautiful experiences I have had with her as I learn from her Christlike example that teach me along with the spirit. She is my best friend and biggest blessing. Her Spanish and teaching skills are so strong. She loves this work and is so wise and mature.

Also: beautiful miracle this week, seeing the Savior and spirit change our investigators when we are not around.
First investigator: his whole family says he is more calm and loving and happier. Way less confrontational since he has been reading the Book of Mormon.
Second investigator: his mom said since he has met with missionaries his "face is different."

This work is true! That is nothing of us. The Savior is present in this work. There is no greater satisfaction I have experienced than being an instrument in the Lord's hands. I am blessed to finish my mission in this area and with this companion.

Con amor,
Hermana McCormick

Another Great Week in August

Zone Conference

Flat of the week

Wonderful Baker Family!!

Where we run each morning

August 24, 2015

Hello Family!

Did you know that I survived the hottest July in Florida in 135 years? And on bike? Go me.

Someone shared this and President included it in our weekly email and I wanted to share it:

"There was a story that I read the other day by Elder Bednar of when he went to Germany and didn't feel like he really needed to be there until he was able to cheer up this guy on the train. He said, "The answer to the question if God would send his apostle to the other side of the world for just one of His children is yes."

I have absolutely seen this in my mission. It can be frustrating when not everything results in a baptism, but if it didn't for Christ, why would it for me? I love seeing that if Heavenly Father sends us somewhere to knock, it is either to find someone to baptize, or answer another one of His children's prayers.

Zone Conference this week was so incredibly uplifting and reminded me that this work is all about our desires. I have gone back and forth my whole mission whether it really is possible to baptize consistently and I realized that it most definitely is. In this mission especially, all it takes is giving it our all and having ONE single desire to baptize and God allows us to see many baptisms. After all, His work is hastening and that is what we came here to do.

Zone Conference was the best yet. Which was wonderful because first off, I talked it up all week to Sister Edwards and explained to her what happened and that it is basically Christmas as a missionary and then I could hardly sleep Wednesday night I was so excited and secondly, because that was my final Zone Conference. As we watched Pres. Uchtdorf's video bearing his testimony and I had an incredible moment of gratitude. I had overwhelming gratitude for my mission and for my Father in Heaven loving me enough to send me on this mission and to send my Savior before me. The feeling is hard to explain, but I know I will never forget it. This work is so precious to me, I love my life here.

This week was a week of miracles. Probably the best week of my mission. We knocked into TWO formers, worked well with the members, and are seeing serious progress with our two main investigators.

First investigator: loves everything we teach still. He is my favorite to teach. Not because he is easy, because he most definitely is not.......,but because he has real intent and I know the Lord has prepared him. Again, hard to explain, but I can feel it. We, as representatives of Christ, must be bold in standing for the truth. We had a breakthrough lesson with him last night and he is committed to be baptized this Sunday.

Second investigator: he is changing his life, slowly but surely. Actually, rather quickly. He always tears up as we bear testimony at the end and is reading the Book of Mormon regularly. He is getting prepared for his baptism soon.

+Miracle of the week: I love how greenies rely on the spirit... I have seen it so many times and Sister Edwards is an example of that. We were talking about where to knock and she felt strongly about one complex. We only had an hour to knock there, but at the last door, a woman answers and kindly lets us in. We were thrown off (come on, we are in Miami... rarely happens haha) and she said her whole family had known the missionaries before. Turns out, Sunday, we got a referral from a young couple. They referred us to their nonmember uncle, aunt, and 2 teenage cousins. Since our boundaries just got changed, their teaching record was in the elders’ area book (they had been taught before). The uncle always told the elders to send the sisters... ha.... but what do you know, after 3 sets of elders, the Lord sent him sisters and for the first time in 15 years, he came to church. We are interested to see what happens with this family. The uncle told us about this story/fable where this captain of a ship was in a storm and the ship was going down and a boat came to help him and he said, "No, it's okay, God will save me." Two more boats came to him. He got to heaven and said, "God why didn't you save me?" God said, "I tried. I sent you 3 boats!" He finished this story and said, the missionaries are the boats. I said, "yeah, and God has just send you your FOURTH boat." He laughed. He knows it's true. The next lesson we had, we walked in and the first thing he said was, "It's my boat! Save me, save me!" Haha. I love this man... there is something working in him.

Book of Mormon: Jacob 5:71

And the Lord of the vineyard said unto them: Go to, and labor in the vineyard, with your might. For behold, this is the last time that I shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand, and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which I shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come.

I likened this scripture unto myself by picturing the Lord saying this to me. He is inviting me to labor with all my might, this is my last transfer, and as I give of myself fully, I will have joy forever. A family member wrote me and said, "Work your hardest and you'll be content for the rest of your life." Baptizing is my first desire; that is my second.

Sister Edwards is so wise and patient and kind. Serving with her is bliss. We are completely focused, happy, and unified in our desire to find the elect and teach and baptize them.

Also, shoutout to the Baker family. They sent us the kindest greenie package. They never fail! It was so fun and the things Momma Baker sent... so on point. THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR DAY!

Thank you all for helping me stay focused and motivated. I love this work. I love my Savior. And I love learning more and more each day.

Con amor,
Hermana McCormick

Sweet companionship

August 17, 2015

HELLO! This week was another week in paradise.

We are not working with as many people as we would like, but no complaints here because the two solid investigators we have are going to be solid members for life.

First investigator: reading and praying and coming to church. He has been taught almost everything. He is very receptive and is preparing for an August 29th baptism.

Second investigator: he is actually our MIRACLE for the week. We finished a meal with a member and the elders. Walked out and our next appt. fell through. After much prayer and thought, we went to the Rojas' (they also live in that complex), asked which other members lived there, referred us to a less active member. We invited him to come with us and off we went. The active mother opened the door and we went in to teach the less active husband and son and found a nonmember adult son. He explained that he had had the charlas seven times and he knew everything and did not want to be baptized. Something within me sparked and I looked at him and thought to myself, "we are going to change that." We shared the restoration. Most spiritual and powerful lesson on the restoration of my mission. The room was unusually warm and bright; the spirit was there. His mom (in her 60s) would answer each time we would ask him about baptism. She answered that he has been to church so many times on and off for the past few years but won't be baptized. I looked at him and said, "but what do YOU think?" He got choked up and said he needed to be baptized. When we left, he followed us out and fought back tears as he explained that he had felt un abrazo around him during the closing prayer. We testified that we prayed so earnestly to know where God needed us that night and we knew God sent us to him because it is his time. He began to weep and responded, "I know. I know it's my time." What a sight….this wonderful man weeping in front of us because the spirit had pierced his soul. I love this work. We have an appointment with him tonight and we are so excited to share the next lesson. Our lesson was edifying for all involved and we absolutely know that he is elect. His mom came up to us and basically fist pumped and hugged us and gave us besitos, she was so thrilled he is deciding to follow His Savior.

People here are so prepared, especially the ones on the street. Between us and the elders, I think we had 7-8 people at church yesterday just from OYMing.

Sister Edwards is such an example to me and never, EVER complains or says anything negative. She is so kind and is always putting my needs first. She is "that great companion." I love her and learn from her constantly.

I am doing well and time is fleeting and not much I can do except work my guts out. Baptizing has never been such a NEED before. It has always been a need on my mission and all I think about, but now I feel different desires to baptize. I only get to wear this nametag for a little more than a transfer and I am just soaking it all up and exhorting everyone with my whole soul to learn more. I am the happiest I have ever been. I treasure each hour of the day. I am learning more about God's love and life has never been so full of beauty. This area is sacred ground to me! My mission is my most prized possession.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT AND EMAILS AND I LOVE YOU ALL AND I KNOW CHRIST LOVES US. He goes before us, He is our pattern and friend. Look up "The Power of God's Love" GC talk. It will change you!

Con amor,

Hermana McCormick
